Hi Rick,
That is a good question and as you know we manage the "Corporate Image" and Marketing for the destination Puerto Aventuras. We visited that question with Sol Morales the Sales Manager of the Omni Hotel in Puerto Aventuras as well as with the Arq. Roman Rivera Torrres who is the Director and developer of Puerto Aventuras.
The answer is not a simple one, "the beach" is not the property legally of Puerto Aventuras nor of the Omni Hotel, instead it is federal property and all of the management of that area so to speak is under the control of the Federal Government.
Yes, there has been talk on the beach there as well as a stretch of beach in Playa Del Carmen between 4th street and 12th street if my memory serves me correctly but the plans don't seem to be in the near future (2009).
I think after the Federal Govt. here in Mexico saw their investment of what? 1 billion dollars or so for the restoration of the beaches in Cancun become a short term recurring expense they will definately do additional studies before committing funds to that type of operation.
Roman has promised to keep us up to date as information is received on the application for beach restoration goes through the motions.
Regards Kevin
